Master of Arts(M.A.) in English at Premier University has two parts: M.A. 1 and M.A. 2. M.A. 1 is a one-year course,comprising two semesters,and is a pre-requiste for those who do not have honors degree. M.A. 2,which is also a one-year course,comprising two semesterss,is open for students (i)who have successfully completed M.A. 1,and (ii) who have successfully completed their B.A (Honors) in English.The M.A degree is conferred on students after they have successfully completed M.A 2. Students having completed M.A 1 but not having pursued M.A.2 will not be conferred the M.A degree,but will receive a testimonial instead.
Admission Requirements ( M.A. 1 ):
Students who have B.A.,B.Sc.,or B.Com.degrees may apply for admission in M.A 1 program.students who have equivalent degrees like the above may also apply.Even students having honors degrees in subjects,except for English,may also apply.
Admission Requirements ( M.A. 2 ):
Students having successfully completed M.A 1 at premier university will be considered eligible for admission in M.A. 2 program.Students who have English honors degree from Premier University or from any other private university, or from the public universities may also apply.
Semester Description (M.A. 1 & M.A 2) :
Each semester comprises 5 full courses of three credit hours.That is,for successfully completing M.A 1 program,a student will have to complete 30 credit hours, and for M.A 2 another 30 credit hours.So at premier University the M.A Degree in English is conferred after completion of 60 credit hours.
M.A in ELT: (MA in English Language Teaching)
At Premier University we are pioneering an MA program in English Language with emphasis on Teaching (ELT) conducted by faculty members who have degrees from North America,the UK and Australia.The course is ideal for practicing and prospective teachers of English Language at School,College & Univesity.
Duration : The Course wil be of one year/two years.
Objectives: The program leading to MA in ELT is designed to produce trained teachers to teach English effectively in primary, secondary and tertiary levels.Combining recent approaches in language teaching such as Communicative approach with practical work, the program aims at covering all aspects to language teaching and producing teachers who will be able to teach English Language competently.
The course is suitable for students who want to be teachers of English Language as well as for the teachers of English with some experience who want to further their qualifications.Students who are interested in researching on language ,culture and communication will also fid the course useful.
The classes will be conducted by experienced faculty members having overseas degrees in English Language Teaching/Applied Linguistics.
Eligibility:
The following types of candidates are eligible for admission:
- 4-year B.A (Hon's) in English Language /Literature/Linguistics from a recognized university(1-year MA)
- 3-year B.a (Hon's) plus 1-year Masters in any discipline from a recognized university.(1-year MA)
- 2-year Bachelor Degree (Pass) plus a two-year M.A degree in any discipline from a recognized university.(1-year MA)
- Practicing teachers of English (i.e.currently teaching English at Primary,Secondary,Higher Secondary and other levels at recognized institutions.(2-year MA)
- 3-year Bachelor Degree(Hon's and Pass) in any subject including English Language /Literature/Linguistics from a recognized University.(2 year MA)

Degree Requirements :Students will have to earn a minimum of GPA 2.25 to quality for the degree.
Application Procedure:A candidate should apply for written admission test within the time limit in the prescribed application from available from Premier University Information desk, on payment desk, on payment of TK. 300/- (Taka Three hundred) only. This can also be obtained by mail from Premier University Admission office by sending:
1. A bank draft of TK. 300/- drawn in favor of Premier University, and
2. A 10”x 8” size self-addressed envelope with postage stamp of TK.25.00.
