Undergraduate Program: B.A. in English (Bachelor of Arts(Hons) in English )

The Department of English Language & Literature(DELL) offers 4-years Honors degree in English,comprising 8 semesters.

A  Department  with a difference :

We have taken into consideration the following factors relating to the conditions of English Department in the private universities of Bangladesh. We have noticed that there are students who, even after completing their programs in English, are not found to be adequately proficient either in language or in literature. It is a disappointment both for the students when they pass out as well as for employers whose requirements they fall to meet Needless to mention, the teachers are left with a feeling of bitter dissatisfaction. Hence premier University undertakes a huge stride forward to build up the careers of the students. Even the students who apparently failed to achieve their expected score line in H.S.C. or equivalent exams but have potentials, will be able to find a place here. They will be rendered foundered foundation courses in English so as to facilitate themselves to get absorbed into the B.A. (Hon's) program.

Ensuring high quality:

As we are firm not to  the compromise on the question of quality, we will not allow our students to remain deficient in English, neither in language nor in literature, during their study here. W do not want our students to earn degrees from here and remain virtually unimportant and non-contributory to the society, rather we want our graduates to shine as better citizens of the country.

Design of the Program :
The BA Honors in English curriculum consists of foundation, core, and elective courses.

• Students will have to take a minimum of 40 courses out 45 in eight semesters over the period of 4-year BA Honors program.
  
• Besides the major courses, the students will take two general education courses (DELL 101, DELL 102) along with one fundamental course on computer (DELL 105).
  
• Students will take 5 courses in semester.
  
• In the 8th semester students will take either group A or Group B as their major option.
  
• Every course is of 3 credits excepting DELL 105 (computer information service), which includes 2 credits.

Duration of the Program:

The B.A(Hons.) program extends over a period of four years divided into eight semester is of 15weeks duration. A student can take maximum 15 credit hours in each semester.The total of  120 credit hours are required for a B.A.(Hons) degree.

Eligibility

PUC admission is competitive.Minimum qualification for admission into B.A.(Hons) in English program is as follows:

• At least a second division or GPA 2.5 in SSC and HSC examination.

or

• GCE "O" Level five subjects with at least 10 points and "A" Level in two subjects with at least "C" grade.(Completed GCE 'O' level in five subjects & A level in two subjects with at least a GPA of 2.5 according to following scale:(A=4,B=3,C=2,D=1))

or

• Completed American High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Premier university admission test score and
• performance in the interview.

Admission test may be waived for candidates with minimum score of 1100 in SAt and at least 500 in Test Of English as a Foreign Language(TOEFL).Admission test also be waived for those who obtained GPA -5 in both SSC and HSC examination and applicants who got 4 as out of 5 in "O" level and TWO as in "A" Level examinations.

Application Procedure:

A candidate should apply for written admission test within the time limit in the prescribed application from available from Premier University Information desk, on payment desk, on payment of TK. 300/- (Taka Three hundred) only. This can also be obtained by mail from Premier University Admission office by sending:

1.  A bank draft of TK. 300/- drawn in favor of Premier University, and

2.  A 10”x 8” size self-addressed envelope with postage stamp of TK.25.00.
