Right to Change Rules: The University reserves the right to modify or change requirements,rules and fees.Such regulations shall go into force whenever the proper authorities may determine.


Right to Dismiss Students:The right is reserved by the university to dismiss or exclude any student from the university ,or from any class or classes, whenever ,in the interest of the student or the University,the university administration deems it adviable.


General Student policies:Policies on Student behavior ,plagiarism,falsification of records,etc.are available in the Office of the Registrar.


Code of Conduct :Premier University strives to maintain a healthy academic atmosphere on its campus.The students are expected to do their part in achieving this goal by attending classes regularly,making appropriate use of all campus resources in a way as to enhance their academic achievements,maintaining discipline,keeping the campus clean and being good neighbors and models of good citizenship.PUC code of conduct for all students is effective.Copies are given during admission into the university.Here's also given :


Academic Honesty :There is a policy of zero tolerance on cheating.Any form of cheating such as copying any document or another person's work,seeking or providing help to other students during tests,or adopting any other form of unfairmeans during exams,will constitute grounds for disciplinary action.Instructors are expected touse reasonably practical means of preventing and detecting cheating.Any student found to be cheating would be reported to the Chairman of the deparment.


Medium of Instruction:English is the medium of instruction.Since many students come from the Bengali medium and who are the weak in English ,the university offers remedial courses to increase their proficiency in English. The number of remedial courses a student is required to take is determined on the basis of the English Placement Tests.The university strictly requires the student to pass the English remedial courses before taking other courses.


Course Load:Fifteen hours of lecture per week is the normal load according to USA standards.But according to load,some department takes 23,20,15 hrs. etc. per week.The load of classes per week of the department as follows:

Class attendance: A student is expected to attend all class meetings in a course.It is the responsibility of an instructor to inform the student of the consequences of absence from class.It is the responsibility of the student to keep instructors informed regarding absences from classes.A student who knows of necessary class absences should consult instructors in advance.A student who misses a class is not excused from obligations to instructors.Instructors will determine if ,and the manner in which ,assignments and exams missed may be made up.A student may be punished for absence in three consecutive classes.

Academic Standing :The performance of a student will be evaluated on the basis of grade point average(GPA) in each semester and cumulative grade point (CGPA),which is the grade point average of all the semesters completed. A student will be considered in minimum standing and making normal progress towards a degree if his/her CGPA is 2.25 or better.

Academic Probation : Students with a GPA of less 2.25 are placed on probation.Students on probation are allowed a maximum of three semesters to raise their GPA.Students who fail to achieve a GPA of 2.25 within three semesters are dismissed from the University.

Leave of absence : Should a student find it necessary to interrupt active pursuit of study .He/she must request in writing for leave of absence for a specific period.A student who discontinues after enrollment without being granted leave of absence or a student who was granted the leave but does not return to active study at the end of the period of approved absence,he/she must apply for readmission after paying readmission fees to the university.The right to use university facilities is suspended while the leave is on effect.

Withdrawal : Withdrawal from the educational program requires the approval of the Academic Chair person of the University.Permission to withdraw will be granted to a student who has a clear financial record and who will apply for withdrawal within two weeks from the date of registration.

Final Examinations: A final examination period is scheduled at the end of each semester.Final examinations are given during this period,however,they donot necessarily occur on the schedule followed by the course during the semester. The Registrar will assign sections of each course an examination time and place during the final examination period.

Credit Transfer: A student studying in other recognized institutions or transferring from one program to another within the university, may apply for credit transfer.Transfer of credits for the relevant courses are subject to the approval of the Academic Committee of the respective departments and /or Equivalence Committee of the university .

Basis of Grading : The grade in a course is based on an overall evaluation of a student's performance in assignments,quizzes,term papers,project work,class participation,class attendance and examinations.In each semester, GPA is computed to determine the academic standing of the student and CGPA is calculated for every student considering all the courses taken so far by the student in the program.GPA and CGPA is calculated as per the following formula:

Grade Points/ per course = Credit *points (for Letter -grade)

CGPA =(Sum of Grade Points /Total Credit -Hours )

Grade Report : Grade report are recorded and prepared by the Registrar's Office and mailed to guardians soon after the end of each semester.Students are solely responsible for their academic progress and should consult immediately with their academic advisors if their performance is unsatisfactory .Failure to maintain satisfactory progress can lead to the cancellation of financial aid, academic probation, dismissal,or other equally serious consequences.

 

Grading System : A student may earn five letter grades on the basis of his/her performance in a course. The letter grade A,B, C and D are considered passing grades.The grade F is the failing grade.To understand the grading System ,here's given the following table:

Grade Points/Per Course = Credit * Points (for Letter- Grade )

CGPA = Sum of Grade Points / Total credit- hours.

GPA - Class Equivalence :

PUC students are evaluated on CGPA.Comparison of the CGPA earned by PUC students to the classes earned by students in other universities in the country is as follows:

CGPA 3.00 and above = First class

CGPA 2.50 to 2.99 = Second Class

CGPA 2.00 to 2.49 = Third Class

 

Incomplete (I): The "incomplete(I)" grade may be used in special circumstances.The Incomplete may be given only at the end of a semester to a student whose work is progressing,but who has left unfinished a small amount of work for completion without further class attendance.The instructor must file with the Registrar in Incomplete Grade form describing the work to be completed.So the student who is earned incomplete grade "I" is allowed to complete course within 4 weeks from the date of publication of his results.A student who fails to complete the course work automatically gets "F" grade earned by him/her.

Withdrawal (W): The grade "Withdrawal" (W) is assigned when a student officaally drops a course within the date mentioned in the academic calendar for the semester.

Retaken (R): Students with a grade of less than 'B' will be allowed to retake the course only once.In these case s, the better grade of the two attempts will be used to calculate the GPA and CGPA.Students who wish to retake a course must obtain previous written permission of the Chairman of the department concerned.They will have to registrar for the course again and will be required to pay usual fees.

Abandoning Courses :Grades 'F ' will be recorded for students who have not fulfilled academic obligations and have not obtained a grade and for students who abandon their courses without officially withdrawing from a course.

Course Numbering : The university uses three-digit numbering system preceded by three capital letters,which indicate the subject area or name of the department,the first digit indicates the level of the course and the last two digits stand for course code.For clarity an explanation of course numbering system is given below graphically-

Unfair Means: Students are strictly forbidden from adopting unfair means in class assignments,tests,quizzez,examinations,project work,team paper and report writing.

The following would be considered as adoption of unfair means during examination and other contests:

  • Communicating with fellow students for obtaining help
  • Copying from another student's script/report/paper etc .
  • Copying from printed matter or hand written manuscript
  • Writing from desk, or palm of a hand ,or from other incriminating documents
  • Possessing of any incriminating documents whether used or not
  • Any approach in direct or indirect form to influence teacher to improve grade of the examinee.
  • Unruly behavior ,which disrupts academic program and /or congenial atmosphere of the university.
  • Submission of readymade project or developed project by others.

If a student is detected by the instructors while adopting unfair means the concerned teacher shall report it to the higher authority for necessary action.Adoption of unfair means may result in the dismissal of the student from a particular course or program and/or expulsion from the university.

Classification of Students:

The undergraduate students are classified according to the numbers of credit hours earned by them towards a degree.the classification applies to Premier University students is as follows:

Transcripts: Official transcript of a student's academic records is issued upon written request of the student or a former student who has paid all fees,including any student loan installment due to the university at the time the request is made.A fee of Tk.600.00 is charged for each transcript.
